Beg tap: Taught by Chicago Tap Theatre Artistic Director Mark Yonally, this class is designed for students ages 12 - 18. Students will learn the fundamentals of tap dance, including technique, theory and the development of skills to make music with their feet! This class will encompass many of the elements Yonally brings to his teaching around the US and Europe, with a focus on learning music theory and the use of games and activities to teach basic concepts. Every week will be structured like a mini CTT Tap Intensive, and conclude with a 5 minute discussion of tap dance history. More than just technique, this class will prepare students to be tap artists with an understanding and appreciation of America's own dance form. Non-tap dancers are especially welcome to this class, which will give them the skills to bring greater musicality, rhythm, footwork speed and weight shifting to their primary dance forms. Musical Theatre fans should definitely consider studying tap to help prepare them for auditions!
Int/Adv tap: Students will gain a deeper understanding of their bodies' ability to create melody and rhythm, while their movement vocabulary is broadened with more slides and tricks. More advanced technical skills and musical and rhythmic ideas will also be integrated into their tap dancing. Games, activities and challenges will continue and reflect the more advanced student level. Students may consider taking both Pre-Professional Beginning and Intermediate Tap. While suitable for all students, the focus in both classes will be on developing professional dance and performance skills, taught with a heaping helping of fun.
